Parent Meeting for Youth and ConfirmationAugust 22, 6:30 PM
Confirmation classes for students starting 6th and 7th grade and older will begin this fall. If you have a child this age or know of a grandchild, relative, or neighbor who would like to be part of our Confirmation program, please let them know about our parent meet-ing and also let Pastor Marla know so we can mail them an invitation.
Jason and DeeDee will also talk about Youth Group for grades 6-12 and the plans for the coming year. Lots of good things are happening for our youth. Please come and find out about it and be part of it!
Nursery Volunteers Jesus loved the little children. Do you, love them too? Might you be willing to volunteer in the nursery on occasional Sunday mornings? If so, please let Pastor Marla know. We need nursery volunteers beginning again in Septem-ber. The more helpers we have the less frequently any one person needs to help. Thanks for your willingness to support the young children and young families of Immanuel.
Let the Little Children Come!
Why do we welcome little children in Worship? In our baptismal service, parents and sponsors promise to bring their children to worship. Bringing children into the sanctuary is something like allowing a child to eat at the dinner table. Even though their manners are far from elegant, it is done so those children will learn and feel a part of the family. Inviting children to participate is the most powerful way to teach them. Children giggle, they poke, they ask questions and they swing their legs simply because they are children. Young children in worship may have bad moments, but it is their birthright as Christians to worship. Children learn by experience. This is how we learn to worship and become an active member of this church community. Children learn how to welcome by how they are welcomed.
What do little children learn when they attend worship? -It is important to experience and learn how to worship. -They belong and are welcomed to this special company of people. -The sights, sounds and feels of the sanctuary are good, though not always understandable. -Something is expected of them in this place, and they may respond in song, prayer, and offering. -They learn behaviors in worship that do not detract from a meaningful experience for others. Bringing a child to church can be a real exercise in aggravation. But then again, so are many other facets of parenting, and the rewards are well worth the effort. While we do not want our children to be disruptive or hamper the churchs worship, we must remember that baptized children are members of the church. Children should be among the worshipping people.
SUNDAY MORNING SCHEDULE: Worship begins at 9:30am in the Sanctuary.
We look forward to seeing you at church all summer! Childrens sermons and bulletins are available each Sunday for the kids, and worship bags are filled and ready to keep little ones occupied with quiet activities in the pew. All are welcome to worship!
